Simon Chisnall

Ashburton, New Zealand

Simon began working for Peter Lynn Kites in 1996, starting in the buggy department before transitioning to show kites in the early 2000s. He soon became the lead designer, creating kites for individuals, sponsors, and global events, including the iconic 19-meter-long Toothless the Dragon for DreamWorks, which was flown through London’s Tower Bridge. He has designed many production kites, one of the most famous being the 30-meter (98-foot) Blue Whale.

In 2006, Simon married Lyndall, a fellow kite enthusiast, and created a custom Sun/Moon kite for her, which was featured on the cover of AKA Kiting magazine. He has also worked on Disney’s KiteTails show kites and contributed to all five of the world’s largest kites, including the Guinness World Record-holding Hope Flag Kite.

Today, Simon travels the globe to international kite festivals, proudly showcasing his innovative designs.
